Rumors continue to persist that a Toyota Century SUV is on the way. This is following on from Toyota turning the Crown into a run of four models, with the sedan coming to North America. The Century has long rumored to become an SUV, and it might even debut at some point in 2023. We had a go recently thanks to our digital artist Rostislav Prokop of creating our own Toyota Century SUV rendering. And it certainly looks a winner.

It looks so good that it should offer a big challenge to Toyota’s biggest luxury SUV rivals. Namely, the likes of Mercedes and Audi, and perhaps even Cadillac and Chevrolet. The Crown as an SUV would combine the very best of practicality and luxury. If these rumors turn out to be true of course.

A Century SUV Could Offer Luxury At A More Affordable Level

If there is one thing that Toyota are good at, its putting good prices on their products. While a luxury SUV would be pricier than a more basic SUV, there is every reason to think the Century SUV would be quite affordable. To those that can afford luxury SUVs anyway. Mercedes-Benz’s can be very expensive, with the AMG GLC 43 starting at $63,000 and the GLC 300 4MATIC at around $50,000 MSRP. Whichever way you look at it, both figures aren’t exactly cheap. Bear in mind that the 2023 Lexus LX 600, from Toyota’s luxury division, does cost $89,160.

But given the Century wouldn’t wear the luxury Lexus name, perhaps its price tag might come down a little bit. Enough to make it more affordable to the masses. The Century sedan costs $180,000, but it isn’t sold in North America and is ultra-exclusive. With how popular SUVs are globally, you have to think a Century SUV would not have the same exclusivity attached to it. To make it work against its competitors, Toyota would have to price its Century SUV at a relatively attainable price.

Toyota Reliability Would Add To The Century's Credence

Something Toyota is of course highly renowned for is its reliability in practically every vehicle its made. The Toyota Sequoia is a prime example of Toyota’s reliability, with it ranking very highly on the J.D Power scores. A score perfect for those looking up how reliable their vehicles are. The Highlander is another impressive and robust Toyota product. And despite the jokes thrown its way, the Prius is an equally reliable and impressive car. Something that should only get better with the 2023 model on the way. Toyota is the king of reliability.

Very few manufacturers can rival them in this area, save for Honda. This compares well for Toyota against some of their biggest rivals, such as Mercedes. The German manufacturer regularly scores rather poorly in rankings about reliability. Overcomplicated technology is often seen as a reason for the company’s products scoring so poorly. You could argue a Mercedes-Benz SUV isn’t as luxurious as they claim they are either. Unless you take a seat in a Mercedes-Maybach. But for Toyota, their proven record on how reliable their vehicles are should mean any Century SUV is a winner in that area.

Toyota Will Produce An SUV More Elegant Than Its Rivals

The Century sedan is an interesting looking car. And while we don’t have much to go on, we think our renders are just as elegant. An SUV with the iconic grille of the Century would look great on an SUV. Century rims would add to its appeal and keep the car incredibly classy. The Century itself is an incredibly quiet car to ride in, and no doubt Toyota would replicate that with the SUV too. While a Century SUV would be elegant, our rendering predicts some square and muscular lines as well.

This is in particular around the lower section of the front bumper. Prokop added chrome trim to our Century SUV render. Creating one of the best looking modern SUVs that money could one day buy. If companies are going to keep making SUVs, then the least they can do is make them look as good as this proposed Century.

Based on the rumors that continue to swirl, a Century SUV is an extremely likely prospect. Rumors have to start somewhere. Toyota would offer something a little different to its rivals with a Century SUV. So we would say that, right now, it is highly likely that one is on the way. But remember, we are only going on the rumors. Toyota hasn’t officially confirmed if the SUV is on the way. But hopefully, later this year, we will find out one way or the other. Either that, or the rumors continue to swirl around the Century SUV for another year at least.
